Creating Small Groups
Want to share different messages for Group projects, study Groups, or centers? Trying to differentiate assignments for your students? Teachers can create Small Groups within their main Groups to make communication simple! Within Small Groups, your students can post either to the Small Group as a whole or to the teacher directly.
Creating a Small Group
To get started using Small Groups, follow the steps below:
Note: At this time, the gradebook is only organized by the main Groups and any grade given to students in Small Groups will appear in the main Group gradebook. Teachers get creative with Small Groups, just think about all the possibilities! You have some options to manage your small groups as well.
- Select the desired Group on the left panel of your Edmodo Homepage.
- Select the "Plus" icon in the “Small Groups” section on the left side panel.
- Click “New Small Group."
- Enter a small Group name, and click “Create”.
Note: At this time, the gradebook is only organized by the main Groups and any grade given to students in Small Groups will appear in the main Group gradebook. Teachers get creative with Small Groups, just think about all the possibilities! You have some options to manage your small groups as well.
Adding Students to a Small Group
Once you've created your small Group, you can add students by following the steps below:
Note: By default, the Group’s owner and any co-teachers of the Group will be members of the Small Group. Once you add students to your small group, next you'll need to learn to manage your small group.
- Click on the main Group on the left side panel. (Your Small Group you just created will appear in the left side panel in the Small Groups section.)
- Select the “Small Group” you'd like to add members to from the left side panel.
- Select the "Members" tab from the left side panel.
- Select the "Plus" icon to the right of "Members" at the top of the page.
- Select "Add Members" or "Add All Members" from the drop-down menu. Any student you add into this Small Group will automatically see the Small Group, under the main Group, on the student’s Account.
